Hikers on social trail between Adventure Lodge and Canyon Loop in 2021

On November 13, 2025 the Boulder County Commissioners voted to approve the purchase of the Fourmile property, former townsite of Orodell. The Commissioners decision allows Boulder County to move forward through the process, and staff anticipates closing on the property in late spring or early summer of 2026.

At the commissioner hearing, BMA’s executive director Wendy Sweet urged the commissioners to not only move forward with the acquisition but to do so with the intent of creating the new connector trail as soon as possible. Both commissioners expressed support for the trail.

With this property addition, BMA will be asking Boulder County to revisit the Betasso Management plan which was last updated in 2009 after the county acquired the Benjamin property. In 16 years we have seen the demand for places to mountain bike only grow in Boulder County, and our community needs a place close to central Boulder that they can ride 7 days a week. BMA is advocating for a new loop in the eastern section of the Betasso property: One climbing optimized trail, and one new intermediate bike-only downhill trail with optional black lines, open 7-days a week. We’d like to see the Link trail remain as it is – bi-directional for people who are comfortable riding bikes on Boulder Canyon Drive.
