Boulder Canyon Drive/CO 119 is undergoing construction to repair 2013 flood damage. The improvement project will also resurface and widen the road. As part of this project, the Boulder Canyon Trail will be extended to Chapman Drive with two additional bike underpasses. There will be road delays during construction with one-way traffic stoplights. The project began in March 2019 and is expected to be completed by Spring 2021.
The Canyon Trail bike path is expected to open mid to late December 2020. Cycling is permitted in both directions on the road through the work zone.
Update: 11/9/2020 – Westbound cycling is now permitted on Boulder Canyon Drive.
Update: 7/2/2020 – Crew finished most paving Fourmile Canyon drive. Cycling restrictions lifted are lifted.
This means that there is no from-town bike access via Boulder Canyon Trail to the following trails:
There are no closures on the Betasso Canyon Link Trail.
Accessing Betasso or Chapman from town via bike:
- You can access the Fourmile Trailhead via Sunshine Canyon Dr/Poorman Rd/Fourmile Canyon drive. Please remember that Betasso is closed to cyclists on Wednesday and Saturdays.
- There is also access from Flagstaff Rd/Chapman. You may access the Betasso Canyon Link trail or Sugarload Rd to ride to Betasso.
- You may bike on Boulder Canyon Drive in either direction, but please be aware there is still construction activity and lots of cars.
