At an October 24 hearing, Boulder County commissioners approved the 1B alignment for the Boulder to Erie Regional Trail (BERT), advancing plans for a safe, separated path between Boulder and Erie. The 8.5-mile trail, expected to cost $30.4 million for construction and design, was approved in a 2-1 vote, with Commissioner Claire Levy voting against due to concerns about wildlife mitigation.

The chosen 1B alignment will run within RTD’s 80-100 foot right-of-way corridor, from 61st Street in Boulder to County Line Road in Erie. This route prioritizes safety and stays within the RTD corridor, largely adjacent to the rail line. An underpass at Highway 287 is planned, with other street crossings designed at-grade. County officials stress that this approval initiates detailed planning, with ongoing public input and collaboration with wildlife experts to address environmental concerns.
