There’s been some confusion around the Chapman Trailhead Project, so here’s the scoop.
What’s Open & What’s Closed
✅ Chapman Drive Trail – Open
✅ Boulder Canyon Trail – Open
❌ Highway 119 Underpass – Closed from March through early summer
❌ Chapman Parking Lot – Closed
What’s Happening?
The Chapman Trailhead Project is bringing some much-needed improvements to one of Boulder’s key access points. The project will:
- Add a pedestrian bridge next to the existing vehicle bridge
- Improve trailhead facilities with restrooms, picnic tables, a bike repair station, and accessible parking
- Enhance equestrian access with dedicated horse trailer parking
What This Means for Trail Users
During construction, the Highway 119 underpass will be closed, which affects how you can access Chapman from the Boulder Canyon Trail. If you’re coming from Boulder Canyon Trail, you’ll need to:
- Ride along Highway 119 for about 550 feet
- Cross the highway at grade (no underpass access)
We’re working closely with City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks (OSMP) and CDOT to ensure proper signage is in place, warning drivers to watch for people crossing the road.
Stay Updated
Construction is set to wrap up in early summer, but timelines can shift. You can follow the latest updates on the City of Boulder’s project page.
BMA will continue to track the project and provide updates—stay tuned!
