Our mission for the day is to reduce the amount of mud on the trail. Join us as we build raised turnpikes, close down unnecessary trail braiding, and quarry rocks. With your help, we hope to reduce the number of days trails are closed due to excessive mud.
We will be constructing raised turnpikes to mitigate standing water and mud on-trail. Volunteers will set pieces of 6×6 wood and secure them into the ground with rebar. We will work together to fill the turnpike with various materials that will allow water to drain down through the walking surface, instead of sitting on top. Participants should expect to sweat as we carry rocks, dig in the dirt, and wheelbarrow around fill material. A variety of additional tasks should be expected.
