There’s nothing quite like autumn in Colorado’s high country and we are lucky to live within an hour of amazing fall foliage. Leaves start changing sometime in September and can still be going strong well into October. Here’s our guide to the best color rides in and around Boulder County.

Nederland

West Magnolia – with a trail called Aspen Alley, you can’t go wrong in West Mag and there’s rides for every level. Check out this Intermediate Beginner Loop, the classic West Mag Tour or the advanced West Mag Backcountry Ride.

Mud Lake & Sherwood – Mud Lake is great for beginner riders and more experienced mountain bikers will love Sherwood.

PEAK TO PEAK

Switzerland Trail – Once a narrow gauge railroad, now a backcountry road open to motorized and non-motorized recreation. Because of its railway beginnings, the Switzerland trail has easy to moderate grades. The section southeast Ward has easily accessible aspen groves.

BLACK HAWK

Maryland Mountain – The Front Range’s newest riding area is home to two bike-only downhill trails. For an easier ride, try a Fast Money to Paymaster loop. For a more rowdy advanced ride hit up Claim Jumper and Hard Money.
