Teamwork makes the dream work! On October 24, leaders from the Colorado Mountain Bike Association (COMBA) and BMA toured Maryland Mountain in Black Hawk, checking out the progress made by volunteers from both organizations. Since these new trails are about equidistant for riders in both areas, we’ve partnered for the first time on a project, pooling resources, volunteers, and trail design experts. This new trail system will include three bike-only downhill options, so there’s a lot to look forward to in 2021. We should hang out more often!
What is the timeline?
The new multi-use climbing trail and blue bike-only downhill trail are roughed in but we won’t be able to open them for riding without significant moisture to pack down the dirt. At this point, we expect to open them in the spring. The green flow trail and black downhill trail should be built out by the end of 2021.
So what’s open now?
There are 5-6 miles of multi-use trail, including the converted tramway, a singletrack trail to the summit of Maryland Mountain, and a 1 mile hiking-only trail to the summit. Please respect the trail closures, use before the trails are ready will result in trail damage and lots of extra work for BMA and COMBA come spring.
Where is this trail system?
You can access Maryland Mountain from the Hidden Treasure trailhead.
