Edited: Powder Keg is now Ore Chute trail

The brand-new bike-only downhill trail is at Maryland Mountain is coming along quite nicely. Powder Keg (if you are wondering who won the naming rights contest, this one came from Black Hawk’s mayor), will bring a double black diamond experience to the Front Range with some serious adrenaline pumping features.

On July 6 BMA, Orbea, Jagged Axe Trail Designs and Colorado Mountain Bike Association (COMBA) held a test and tune day to refine some areas and continue pushing the project forward.

We invited a few local riders out with Mike Rutter and the COMBA and Orbea crews to get their input. We’re working hard to ensure we take a collaborative approach to this trail and bring something truly unique to the Front Range MTB scene.

BMA test rider Andrew said, “It was a ton of fun and the beginnings of the trail exceeded my expectations. Has a great feel to it being tight in the woods up top and flows very well especially after a couple laps on it. The slab section is also unique and will get a lot of people buzzing about what is possible to build now for legit trails.

Work is being done all along the first section so please continue to be patient and let the work be completed safely. We hope to open the top section at the end of July and the complete trail by the end of the summer.
