US Forest Service Boulder Ranger District trail crew completed the Waldrop extension, adding 1 mile of fresh new singletrack to the Brainard Lake system. This trail is part of the Brainard Lake Recreation Area project which will improve navigation and the visitor experience and create a better route from the winter trailhead to Brainard Lake. The yet to be named Waldop Extension (or More Waldrop? Summer Snowshoe?) connects the Brainard Lake to the Waldrop meadow. Many of the improvements slated for the original Waldrop trail are still in the future, so the first 1.6 miles of Waldrop from the winter lot are very chuck-a-lunky while the extension is smoother with a flatter grade. Now’s a great time to check out this trail and get some wheels on the ground but if you don’t make it up to Brainard until the winter season, this trail replaced the western end of the Snowshoe trail.
